Green Bay Packers Jordan Love is turning heads and drawing the admiration of pundits and fans alike. After a slow start, the signal caller is stepping into his own and is becoming something of a household name. What may not be known, and what is currently flying under the radar is that he is on pace in one noteworthy category with other QBs of note.
Say what you will about these two names, but for Jordan Love being on a list with Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes is an impressive feat. Considering the other two of the three players mentioned here are MVPs, Love is doing something right.
In five games this year, Love has games with three or more touchdown passes. Only he, Jackson, and Mahomes have accomplished this as a 25-year-old or younger.
This statistic shows a lot. At times has it been bumpy? Yes. But with increased time he has shown improvement. And now, Love is truly playing as one of the better quarterbacks in the league.
The Green Bay Packers had his most complete game against the Minnesota Vikings. What was great is despite an injured wide receiver room, Love showed command of the offense and made plays that were simply beautiful to watch.
Now, Love has pundits showering their praise on him, and people who were once so critical are attempting to look like they knew it all along. Whether you were on the wagon early or wanted to wait to see more from him, Love is earning the compliments that he is now receiving.
Despite his noticeable improvement over the year, there will of course be areas to get better in. Even the best of the best, if you watched Tom Versus Time, Tom Brady was looking for avenues to even make the slightest adjustments that could enhance his performance.
Watching him play and based on what the coaching staff has said it’s the footwork.
When Love has time, or can see the pass rush and reestablish himself, the mechanics in his foundation are sound. And when his base is good, he throws the ball just about as well as anyone in the NFL.
At times, especially on plays that the line is unable to hold up in protection, Love will almost be fading and turning away from the throw. While of course it’s easier said than done to stand in the pocket. In general, the more consistent and sound his fundamentals are the better.
That being said, the Green Bay Packers QB is seeing the field much better. His deep throws are looking good on release, and there is one more exciting aspect. The timing with his receivers has improved and it seems that they are on the same page more often now.
While Love is not currently at the level of Jackson or Mahomes, he has shown glimpses of being able to make the same plays as those players. With more time, and more reps, will he be able to catch up to them?
