Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has been nominated for the prestigious Yachine Trophy, an award presented by France Football honouring the best goalkeepers in the world for the calendar year.
The Yachine Trophy, part of the Ballon d’Or awards, will be decided on by a voting system involving journalists from across the world and is set to be presented on October 30 in Paris.
Maignan has been included in a list of 10 goalkeepers and is the only nominated goalkeeper currently plying his trade in Serie A. Representatives from the Premier League, Ligue 1, LaLia and the Turkish SuperLig have also been included.
Despite having missed a significant chunk of the 2022-23 season through injury, the Frenchman established his importance to the team upon his return, eventually helping the Rossoneri to a fourth place finish in Serie A, keeping eight clean sheets from 21 league appearances in the process.
Former Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana has also been nominated for the Yachine Award, thanks to Inter’s top four finish and an appearance in the Champions League final against Manchester City in June.
The other eight nominees are: Manchester City’s Ederson, Thibaut Courtois, Aaron Ramsdale, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Emiliano Martinez, Yassine Bounou, Brice Samba and Dominik Livakovic.
