Two strong away wins built on strong performances and momentum were at Everton. Not only that, Jack Harrison is back, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in top form and James Garner has become a creative monster.
The question for me is where will Garner play today.
I’m conflicted.
On the one hand, I think this could be an opportunity to experiment.
But in the end it’s a must win and sticking to what we know can work is important, so for me it’s 4-5-1 and just like when it started with Brentford.
That means Garner and McNeil are on the outside and Doucoure rushes in the middle.
I’d start Calvert-Lewin up top and Nathan Patterson at right-back, with Ashley Young filling in for Vitalii Mykolenko’s absence.
For me, the hope is that Everton can do what they haven’t done at Goodison for almost a year and get a lead, a cushion and the space to experiment.
I’d like to see Garner play through the middle, Harrison outside and Arnaut Danjuma supporting the strikers in a 4-4-2/4-5-1 if the game allows for a late start.
Another game and another afternoon where Sean Dyche faces some selection dilemmas for all the right reasons.
After back-to-back wins over Brentford and Aston Villa and with an almost full squad to choose from, it’s safe to say the Everton manager has some tough selection questions for this afternoon’s match against Luton Town.
Hwever, for me, it’s time to mix things up from a tactical perspective and that means switching to a 4-4-2 formation and trying to take the game back to the Hatters.
The back five are pretty self-selected, with Jordan Pickford, Nathan Patterson, James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite all keeping their places, while if Vitaliy Mykolenko misses, Ashley Young will slot in at left-back.
In midfield, James Garner must maintain his position in the middle of the park, and must have Amadou Onana, who played excellently against Unai Emery’s team, alongside him.
Dwight McNeil will start on the right, with Arnaut Danjuma on the left.
At the top, it’s time to release Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
This pair could really cause Luton problems and give Everton a side to their attack that we haven’t seen in a long time.
