Fresh blows have followed Leeds United’s extremely disappointing defeat at Southampton but with a double slice of Whites relief.
Leeds started the weekend in sixth place, but Daniel Farke’s side fell to a 3-1 defeat in Saturday’s midday game at St Mary’s, in which they led 3-0 at the break after a poor first half .
Leeds remained in sixth place before kick-off at 3pm, but the Whites have now been overtaken by Cardiff City, Norwich City and West Brom, who have all recorded wins.
Still, there was double relief as high-flying Ipswich Town were held to a 1-1 draw by Huddersfield Town and Preston North End were also beaten 4-0 when visiting West Brom.
A win for Ipswich could see Leeds finish the weekend 11 points off the automatic promotion places, but the worst case scenario would now see the Whites nine points clear of the top two .
Ipswich remain top after a draw at Huddersfield and are a point ahead of Leicester City, who visit Blackburn Rovers in the only remaining match of the weekend with a midday kick-off on Sunday.
Leeds are currently in 9th place, 3 points off the play-off places and 8 points behind the top 2 teams, but Leicester will extend that gap to 9 if they avoid defeat to Blackburn and move away from Leeds.
11 points equals a win.
The white team is only three points behind fourth-placed Sunderland, but seven points behind third-placed Preston, eight points behind Leicester and nine points behind Ipswich.
