Goalkeeper Yann Sommer took on a whole new challenge in his career after joining Inter Milan in the summer.
Speaking to Swiss news outlet SRF, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old also expressed the hope that he can continue to play well into the future.
This summer, Swiss international Sommer made the switch to Inter from Bayern Munich.
The 34-year-old had spent just half a season in Bavaria. He joined as a temporary replacement for injured Bayern captain Manuel Neuer.
However, Sommer always made clear that he wanted to have a first-choice role.
Therefore, the Swiss made clear that he wanted to leave the German champions. And he was happy to take on a new challenge at Inter.
Sommer is a veteran keeper at this stage of his career. Nearly a decade with Borussia Monchengladbach saw the Swiss gain a formidable reputation.
Meanwhile, Sommer has also been a key figure in goal for the Swiss national team for some time now.
And at the Nerazzurri, the 34-year-old is relishing the chance to play in a new league and country, and hoping to make his mark.
Sommer said of being at Inter that “Being here has made me more enthusiastic about my career. It’s a new challenge.”
“Bayern was a completely new experience for me,” he continued. “I spent a short but very successful period there which was very special.”
“But now I’ve arrived here to be the Number One,” he said of joining Inter. “That means a lot.”
“Inter was waiting for me, the feelings are positive,” he continued.
“Everyone here already sknow me from the World Cup qualifiers [Sommer saved two penalties from Jorginho in qualifying clashes with Italy.]”
Sommer also added that “I have a good relationship with [Inter goalkeeping coach GIanluca] Spinelli. We mainly work on strength and explosiveness.”
“I’m feeling great and I want to play football for a long time,” the 34-year-old said.
