Check out some of Aston Villa’s biggest failures in burgundy and blue

From Holt to Helenius let’s take a look at Aston Villa’s worst performers

Stephen Ireland spoke out last week on his time at Aston Villa and claimed he was told he was too good to be at the club.

An interesting claim when for many Villa fans, he is remembered as one of the most disappointing signings of a troubled era at Villa Park.

Ireland claims that his ex-Villa manager Alex McLeish tried to help him complete a move to Manchester United after suggesting he was ‘too good’ to be in his Lions squad.

“In comes McLeish and I had a really good pre-season,” Ireland told Ladbrokes, via the Sun. “At which point the manager told me I should probably look at moving on, because of my style of play. “His exact words were ‘you’re too good to be here.”

It was reading that rather bold claim, that reminded me of when our Villa team recorded an episode of our Claret and Blue Podcast, looking at Villa’s biggest flops.

Ireland was just one of the players they included in the World Cup Final of worst Aston Villa players.

Using fan suggestions, they picked an overall winner.
