England coach Gareth Southgate stressed Marc Guehi’s composure after the Crystal Palace defender started Saturday’s 1-1 Euro 2024 qualifier draw against Ukraine.
The 23-year-old made his fifth appearance for the Three Lions in Wroclaw, Poland.
Arsenal’s versatile defender Oleksandr Zinchenko opened the scoring for Ukraine in the 26th minute, but Kyle Walker equalized before half-time to save a point for England.
Southgate’s team tops Group C with 6 points.
The England boss made 114 appearances for the Eagles as a player.
Former Palace defender Southgate said: “It was a really good test for a young centre-back in one of his first qualifying matches for us.
“I think he did very well.
Good composure – he never appears to be in a hurry and has a good stance.
So I’m very happy with what he did.
