Everton’s departure casts harsh verdict on Toffees’ demise and blames ‘constant changes’ within the club

Tom Davies has revealed he chose to leave Everton due to constant changes in coach, players and squad in recent years.

The 25-year-old has decided to leave his boyhood club for Sheffield United this summer, after turning down a contract extension at Goodison Park.
Davies burst onto the scene in 2016 at the age of 18, scoring a superb individual goal against Manchester City in Everton’s 4-1 win at Goodison ParkSheffield United: Tom Davies joins after leaving Everton - BBC Sport
The midfielder was hailed as a superstar after that performance, but never lived up to Everton players’ expectations.
Davies made 179 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 7 goals and providing 8 assists.
Despite his good form, Davies struggled to break into the starting XI last season after falling behind Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gana Gueye, James Garner and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the pecking order
Davies now has another chance to succeed in the Premier League with Sheffield United.
However, it is fair to say that he does not have much hope for the future of his beloved team Everton.
Opening up on the reasons behind leaving Everton, Davies admitted the upheaval at the club in recent years had affected him
When asked if moving was an opportunity to feel the sense of security he lacked, he replied:
“Yeah, you could say that,” he told Stadium Ast
“It’s hard for a footballer to reach their potential when they are constantly being changed around and there is people coming and going and you’re trying to make connections with different team-mates, different managers, different formations
“For me, I think that [stability] is a big thing I need and just knowing I fit into a team and they want me to be here for the player I am.
That then gives you the confidence to express yourself on the pitch

“It was definitely a new step and a challenge for me.
It was a natural step for me to take and one I was happy to take because I want to look after myself first and put my career first.
I think for me to come here, it was by doing that.
It’s always difficult to leave your first club and your childhood club, but it’s a [decision] I’m happy to have made and I’m happy to be here.
Davies is yet to play for Sheffield United, so it will be interesting to see whether he makes his debut when the Blades take on Tottenham on September 16.
