Tommy Doyle transfer news: Wolves sign Manchester City midfielder on loan - BBC Sport
.
Wolves showed an interest in Doyle earlier this summer.
And when Matheus Nunes attracted the interest of Man City, Wolves decided to play for Doyle, although the two deals were eventually split.
Doyle is a midfielder and fans can’t wait to see what he can bring but what exactly is his best position?
Coming from City, Doyle is very versatile.
In his short career to date, he has played in various midfield positions, including at City, Hamburg, Cardiff City and Sheffield United.
But when asked what his favorite role in midfield is, Doyle replied:
“I’ve always been a midfielder.
When I was young, I was a midfielder.
And when I got to about 15 years old, then at the city academy, they pushed me a little bit higher, around 8 and 10 years old, to learn those roles.
I kind of fell between the two.
In that sense, I’m lucky to understand all the roles in midfield, which obviously helps you in this game.
“I think holding (is my preference).
When I can hold the ball and try to control the game, bring intensity but also bring calmness.
“I also think as a midfielder you can contribute a few assists and a few goals whenever you can, which is exciting.
Doyle said it very well
Doyle therefore prefers to play as a midfielder, which is interesting because we have seen the likes of Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes play in midfield recently, both of whom have been really impressive .
Wolves confirm midfielder Tommy Doyle's arrival on a loan deal from Manchester City…with an option to buy England Under-21 star for £4.3m
There’s also Bellegarde now, as well as Joe Hodge and Boubacar Traore, so Doyle has plenty of competition for his preferred midfield and goalkeeper role.
But we have a feeling with Doyle that he will work hard to achieve it.
