According to Chris Sutton, sacking Everton’s Sean Dyche would be “crazy” as he is the ideal manager to help them overcome the crisis.
Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast (September 21), this expert appeared to firmly defend the Toffees boss, but made it clear that Everton will have difficulty this season no matter what.
While welcoming Beto’s signing, Sutton insisted Dyche’s performances so far have met Everton fans’ expectations for the season.
Suton said:
“What do Everton fans expect at the start of the season?
I guess most Everton fans know they are in another relegation battle.
“They don’t spend a lot of money.
I think Beto is a good signing but they always struggle.
I don’t think any Everton fan thought they would be exposed to European football.
“It’s been a slow build for Everton.
It would be foolish for them to consider sacking Sean Dyche.
He is the ideal man for the environment Everton find themselves in.
After a poor start to the season, many are wondering whether Dyche is still the right man for the job at Goodison Park.
A winless start has seen them pick up just one point from their opening five matches – a hard-fought draw against Sheffield United.
However, it is not surprising that the majority of the squad does not meet Premier League standards.
Those who come have just arrived or cannot leave the clinic for too long.
Even if the club wanted him to, a Daily Mail report (September 21) claims the Toffees may not have enough money to let the former Burnley manager leave because of the £4m redundancy clause You seem like a very high bill to pay.
That being said, Dyche is no stranger to relegation and very few managers in the market can do what he has done so far this season.
Unless Pep Guardiola is out of work in the coming weeks, Dyche is the best Toffees fans can hope for – for now.
Even if the takeover comes to a slow close – if at all – it’s likely that Dyche will bring his raspy voice and outspoken nature to Finch Farm in the near future.
In other Everton news, Dyche has answered questions about Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of the trip to Brentford.
