The latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as one of the club’s Wembley heroes was back in Birmingham to face Blues
Albert Adomah’s appearance as a second half substitute in QPR’s 0-0 draw at Birmingham City, prompted an expected reaction from the St Andrew’s faithful. Brought on to replace Paul Smyth with 25 minutes remaining the former Aston Villa man’s arrival produced a cascade of jeers.
The 35-year-old was greeted with a customary deluge of ‘Who are ya?’ as his name was read out and followed by several other songs based around the Second City rivalry. Adomah’s response, though, showed he has lost none of his sense of humour as he pointed to the name on the back of his shirt and flashed a cheeky grin.
Adomah went on to provide a dangerous half-hour display on the Rs’ right wing and with ten minutes to go set up what should have been a winner for the visitors when he picked out Lyndon Dykes eight yards out only for the Scotland international to direct his free header too close to John Ruddy. Former Villa striker Scott Hogan missed Blues’ best chance of the game.
The Londoner is now in his fourth season at QPR but remains warmly regarded at Villa Park for the three he spent in the Claret and Blue. Adomah, or ‘Uncle Albert’ as he is affectionately known scored 22 times in 125 games for the club and started the play-off final win against Derby County before moving to Nottingham Forest where he became a bit part player. So far he has made 116 appearances for the Loftus Road outfit.
