According to Dean Jones, Everton will “be at the front of the line” asking Wayne Rooney to return to lead England while Sean Dyche is “under pressure” on Merseyside.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT (September 22), the former Eurosport journalist said the former England captain would be one of the “favourites” to replace the current Toffees coach, with the club having “a decision to make”.
” as manager.
According to Jones, “it won’t be long” until Rooney reaches his “natural point” when his time at DC United in MLS comes to an end, and if Dyche is moved for the former Goodison striker, he will be “one of the best” favorites” to take over.
Jones said:
“To be honest, I would be surprised if we don’t see Rooney as Everton manager at some point.
I think when he comes back to English football I’ll be very surprised if it’s not Everton leading the way in terms of decision-making.
” you this opportunity.
“Whether it’s now or at the next meeting, we’ll have to wait and see.
” But Sean Dyche is clearly under pressure now and that looks set to continue.
“It won’t be long until the MLS season is over and we may reach the point where of course Rooney’s time in MLS is coming to an end and Everton have to decide who their next coach is.
“If that’s the case, then I expect Rooney to be one of the favourites.”
Forever linked
Of course Rooney’s is a name that comes up in relation to the Everton manager’s job whenever it is available, unless or until he actually gets the job, thanks to his history with the club.
Since the 37-year-old himself seems to think that be might be set to leave DC United in the near future [Washington Post, 1 September] the timing makes it inevitable that a possible arrival at Goodison Park comes into focus.
With Dyche starting the season with just a point from the first five games, four of which were lost without scoring a goal, questions are growing about his suitability for the job.
But with Farhad Moshiri taken over by 777 Partners and now going through the administration process, which could take up to three months, his sacking seems unlikely, even if the club decides he should leave.
Go.
Everton’s current owner does not seem to want to spend millions more to pay another coach and recruit a new one.
And until an agreement is reached, the potential new owners have no authority to lead such a process, even if their consent is needed for key decisions between now and then.
So unless something drastic happens, there could be at least one more step in Rooney’s coaching career before returning to Everton, unless 777 Partners wants to attract attention after his redemption.
theirs is complete, assuming that is the case.
