Sunderland lost out despite dominating against Cardiff City, as they conceded from a late corner
Tony Mowbray admitted Sunderland’s defeat against Cardiff City was a ‘hard one to take’ after his side conceded late in a game they had dominated. The Black Cats were on top against the Bluebirds virtually from beginning to end at the Stadium of Light, but just could not breach the visitors’ defence.
And instead they gave away a needless corner three minutes from time, which allowed Cardiff’s Mark McGuinness to score with his side’s first effort on target all afternoon. Mowbray was frustrated at the outcome but took heart from the performance.
“It’s a hard one to take,” said Mowbray. “We shouldn’t be too disappointed with the performance, I think they gave it a real go.
“We found out last year that teams are allowed to come here and defend, which they [Cardiff] did, they put a lot of men behind the ball, they were very resilient and put their bodies on the line. We just have to find that extra bit of quality, really.
