FLW compares how much Birmingham City and Aston Villa’s home jerseys cost.
The Blues have been stuck in the second tier for some time, but with the building’s new owner and manager John Eustace achieving good results, there is a sense of optimism surrounding the club.
The Blues are currently enjoying their 13th consecutive season in the Championship and with the club starting well this season, they will be hoping to finish this season and join arch-rivals Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The Midlands Derby has been a notable event over the years, but with Villa rising to the top, they have not met for a while.
But because they don’t meet on the pitch, we at Football League World have to think about how much Birmingham’s home shorts cost compared to Aston Villa’s.
We took a look at Birmingham City’s official website to see how much their shirts are costing fans this season.
For one adult, one man and one woman, the cost of purchasing a home shirt will be £55, while for youth players the cost can range from £39 to £47.
While it gets more expensive if fans want to add shorts and socks.
As shorts will cost an extra £22 and socks will cost an extra £11.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Aston Villa’s shortfall is much more expensive than Birmingham’s.
Perhaps that’s because Villa are in the Premier League and it seems like most top teams’ home shirts are priced around that figure.
You can find Villa’s home shirt on their official website and for the men’s home shirt, supporters will have to pay £70
For a full set of men’s sizes, the total would come to £143 as socks cost an extra £55 and socks cost £18.
Women’s home shirts cost the same, while children supporting Aston Villa will have to pay £55 for a home shirt, the same as Birmingham’s for an adult.
Birmingham and Aston Villa have been Midlands rivals since 1887, when the Blues were known as the Small Heath Alliance.
There have been 128 meetings between the two teams in various competitions, with the first match ending in a win at Villa as well as the most recent match being a 0-1 loss in the Championship in 2019
Of these 128 matches, Birmingham won 38 and Villa won 57, meaning the Premier League team has the bragging rights of having the most wins.
The Blues’ last victory in this encounter dates back to 2010, when they defeated Villa in the League Cup.
Team Eustace hopes to soon meet their main opponent again and end their winless streak.
