During an extremely chaotic summer transfer window at Leeds United, one name seemed destined for a move to Elland Road.
Having been limited to cameos from the bench in his first appearances in White, the 27-year-old finally got his first start as Leeds ran out 3-0 winners over Watford on Saturday (23 September) and he left Daniel Farke impressed by his performance.
As quoted by Leeds Live (25 September) the Leeds boss said: “The last days I got the feeling okay, he looks like now that he’s really prepared and ready because I just wanted to unleash him and he’s really fully fit and fully ready to go and this is what he showed today
“I think he was excellent in his passing, his positioning against the ball. Obviously not a perfect performance even though there were some areas we can improve.
“But if you keep in mind that this was the first competitive game for him for clubs in a really long while, you have to say you have to give him lots of praise and I’m pleased that he repaid as much as possible.”
Before being substituted last in the contest, Kamara barely put a foot wrong on the ball, as suggested by Farke, completing 46 of his 50 attempted passes, completing five balls into the final third and being accurate with 100 per cent of his long balls [Fotmob].
In defence, it was a quieter afternoon for the 27-year-old given Farke’s side’s dominance over the Hornets, but Kamara won his only attempted tackle in the contest, made four ball recoveries and won two of his three ground duels as he and Ethan Ampadu dominated the middle of the park.
The hope of Farke’s business this summer, especially in midfield was to give Leeds United more high-quality competition in midfield and alongside Ampadu, Archie Gray and Ilia Gruev, the United boss now has multiple options to pick from.
However, with a week between games and ample time for Kamara to complete his recovery, given his recent lack of football, before the Whites face Southampton, Farke surely has to start the Finnish midfielder after he was so impressive on his first start.
Although the other midfield options are more than strong, Kamara was running games in Europe only a matter of years ago as Rangers made their way to the Europa League final, at his best, he could be one of the more influential midfielders in the Championship.
With Farke believing there’s still more to come from the 27-year-old, Leeds fans should be excited to see what a fully up-to-speed Kamara looks like.
