Damian Lillard trade talks appear to be heating up once again.
But this time, the Miami Heat may not be considered the Portland Trail Blazers star’s favorite.
Last week, it was reported that a mysterious Eastern team was hoping to capture the seven-time All-Star.
Now it looks like ESPN’s Marc J.
Spears has revealed who that team is: the Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors are said to be the “favorites” in the Lillard trade sweepstakes, with the caveat that no deal is “imminent” at this time.
Spears also reported that two NBA executives believe Lillard will be traded before media day, which is October 2 for most teams.
The Blazers could face a PR nightmare if Lillard remains on the team during media day.
The Heat’s offer was initially expected to include Tyler Herro and two first-round picks.
Miami doesn’t have much else to offer compared to the Raptors, who have some intriguing pieces on their roster.
Toronto has tradeable veterans like Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby.
They also have young talent like 2022 Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes and 2023 lottery pick Gradey Dick.
While the Raptors have a lot to offer, the question is whether Lillard really wants to play for the Canadiens.
Lillard’s recent social media activity suggests he still wants to come to the Heat.
However, the Raptors made a similar move with the Kawhi Leonard trade in 2019 – and it worked out quite well for them.
