Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou will be hoping the positive feelings around the injury scares for James Maddison and Brennan Johnson continue as the week progresses.

Both players picked up problems during the North London Derby draw at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Johnson first pulling up and holding his hamstring and then Maddison suffered a painful looking jolt to his knee.

Johnson pulled up holding his left leg in the 62nd minute with what football.london understands was a tight hamstring rather than a more serious issue, and the player did not want to worsen the problem in the moment. The hamstring will be monitored this week to check there is no underlying issue but on Monday morning he only required treatment and not a scan.

With Maddison, his foot awkwardly caught in the turf and his knee was pushed backwards. The midfielder has been playing through knocks and issues in recent weeks but he looked in a lot of pain after that moment. After treatment though Maddison was able to run and move and play on for almost another seven minutes before coming off with Son.

“Yeah I jolted my knee, Jorginho kicked my knee and my leg just jolted a bit. I’ve done about six interviews and haven’t actually seen the physios yet so I’m going to get it checked out in a sec,” he said in his Spurs interview.

Maddison is set to have a scan on his knee but he looked to be moving normally after the game as he undertook his various media duties and football.london understands the initial feeling from the player after the game about his knee was positive. Much will depend on how that knee now reacts to the jolt.

“Not sure with Brennan, it seems like he felt something, I think his hamstring. We’ll assess that. Madders and Sonny weren’t 100% going into the game but they got through it which suggests that it’s nothing serious,” Postecoglou told football.london on Sunday after the game.

In the latest episode of Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham our Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold and the head of football.london Lee Wilmot discussed the injuries and analysed the 2-2 draw against Arsenal as Postecoglou made a big point about bravery paying off in the derby.
