Willy Gnonto remains at Leeds United this summer despite attempts to force his way out of the club amid interest from Everton and European sides – and Gus Poyet has given his verdict to Football League World.
Gnonto, 19, refused to play again this summer in matches against Shrewsbury Town, Birmingham City and West Brom.
But he has since returned to action – although he is currently sidelined with injury.
The winger is very interested in him.
Everton made an offer to sign the Italian prodigy, Freiburg in Germany was very interested.
A report from Napoli Calcio Live indicates that Fiorentina and Sassuolo could make an offer in January.
oyet, who spent a year at Leeds as assistant to Dennis Wise between 2006 and 2007 and is now Greece coach, was asked about Gnonto.
He explains how Farke must find balance for his future.
“The coach will always try his best to keep a player like Wilfried Gnonto.
He has to balance the importance of money to the club and the importance of players to the team,” Poyet said.
“It’s a difficult situation.
When you have a player of such quality, you want to keep him at least until the end of the season,” the Uruguayan added when talking about Gnonto in an interview with Football League World.vv
If Leeds want to keep Gnonto beyond January and for the rest of the season, promotion is crucial.
Financially, this means Leeds don’t need to buy a player like Gnonto to keep Leeds safe and viable.
Second, live up to Gnonto’s ambitions.
Keeping him for a season while he’s still a teenager is fine, but a second season and that’s too long for a player like Gnonto to be in the Championship.
