Reports of “concrete” interest from Fabrizio Romano never came to anything and the Nottingham Forest defender moved to Cardiff City on loan for the season.
Other than Leon Balogun, no other centre-halves arrived and Rangers never seemed to go from Jonathan Panzo to any other target, not that the 22-year old is impressing at his current club.
Panzo would have been looking to get similar game time to what he got last season at Coventry City but, so far, he has played just 28 minutes for the Championship outfit.
Rangers, on the other hand, now have everyone fit at the back and have a full complement of five available.
Ben Davies has come in from the cold after injury problems in pre-season, there was also plenty of speculation that he was on his way out.
His return saw an impressive display against Real Betis which served as a reminder of what he is really capable of.
Despite Michael Beale hinting on more than one occasion that he was looking to add another defensive option, the perception was that there would have to be an exit before any new additions could be made.
Rangers might have to shop on a budget, but the scouting has to be better than looking at players who can’t get a game in the Championship.
At the other end of the park we have seen Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers struggle to make an impact and they came from Serie A.
