`Absolutely gutted’ Aaron Ramsey issues statement on huge Cardiff City injury blow
Aaron Ramsey says he is “absolutely gutted” to report that he has suffered a knee injury in training but vowed to get back to help Cardiff City as quickly as possible.
The Wales captain has missed the last three Cardiff games due to what was initially reported as a small injury. However, Erol Bulut on Thursday afternoon revealed that Ramsey will be out for a minimum of three weeks, however that could be longer if he requires surgery. Bulut, who said the club is awaiting the result of the scans, hopes that isn’t the case.
Ramsey’s injury strife in recent seasons is well documented, but he appeared to be in fine fettle since returning to his boyhood club in the summer. Indeed, Bulut said Ramsey had been in top condition physically and in a good place mentally. To get the latest Bluebirds news sent straight to your inbox, sign up here.
However, in recent days, Ramsey sustained an injury to the tendon on the back of his knee while trying to change direction during a Bluebirds training session. It is the same knee the midfielder, 32, had an operation on some years back. The injury could also put him out of the crunch Wales game against Croatia on October 15.
Following the news of the injury, Ramsey himself took to social media to say: “Absolutely gutted to say that last week I picked up an injury in training. I will be seeking specialist advice on next steps. I’m determined to get back and help the team as quickly as I can.”
It means Ramsey will miss the Bluebirds’ games against Rotherham United this Saturday, Middlesbrough away next Tuesday before taking on Watford before the international break. Clearly, Bluebirds fans are disappointed, but so, too, are his team-mates.
Captain Joe Ralls said of Ramsey’s injury. “It’s a big blow. I’m gutted for him, personally. He’s been brilliant for us and I just hope he’s back as quickly as possible. Hopefully other people step up now.
“He is quality. He has contributed goals and assists, that’s massive. It’s well documented that we didn’t score enough goals last year and we have addressed it this year and he’s been a part of it with his creative output. He also works hard and has a great engine. He is a great player and is someone we’ll miss for sure.”
