Ex-Rangers star Malik Tillman sends Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos sprawling to win a penalty for PSV Eindhoven in their latest Champions League clash.
The young American won a penalty for PSV in the eventual 2-2 draw with Sevilla by rolling the ball away from Real Madrid legend Ramos whose outstretched leg felled him in the box.
Luuk de Jong would step up to lash in an equaliser after Nemanja Gudelj had given Sevilla the lead, with PSV star Jordan Teze eventually scoring late on to level up after Youssef En-Nesyri had put the La Liga side back in front almost immediately.
The result is PSV Eindhoven’s first point of the Champions League group stages having lost to Arsenal on the opening night after overcoming Rangers in the playoff.
Malik Tillman – who played a key role in the weekend’s win over Volendam – now looks to have assumed a starting role in the PSV team and it’s quite something to see the kid win a penalty from Sergio Ramos.
Only last season was the USA international turning out at Ibrox and after a summer of discontent, Rangers’ exclusive option-to-buy turned out to be not so exclusive after all.
Having won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award there were high hopes Rangers could sign the kid this season to help bolster Michael Beale’s squad.
But as things transpired Malik Tillman wouldn’t move to Rangers and is instead turning it on against Sergio Ramos and Sevilla in the Champions League with PSV.
Having signed a loan deal at the Dutch club this season, Bayern Munich are now said to be demanding £13m as part of any option-to-buy.
This is substantially more than the £5m reportedly attached to the Ibrox deal and it’s a figure probably more befitting Malik Tillman’s talent.
As Malik Tillman showed for PSV against Sevilla and Sergio Ramos, perhaps turning out for Rangers up at Ross County on a permanent basis was never a realistic proposition.
