JUST NOW BBC pundit baffled by West Brom man’s international call up…

Kevin Kilbane has questioned why West Brom midfielder Jayson Molumby was called up by Stephen Kenny for Ireland in October.

Ireland face Greece and Gibraltar in key Euro 2024 qualifying matches as they currently sit fourth in Group B, having won just once in their first five outings, losing to Netherlands Bas and France in September.

West Brom midfielder Molumby started in the loss to France but was dropped to the bench in the match against the Netherlands and was limited to a substitute role in the Baggies’ last three matches, causing BBC Sport expert Kilbane to question asked if he should participate or not.
Kenny’s team.
Writing for the Irish Times (October 7), he said:
“The manager hardly follows what has been proven.
Poor results require redoing this window.
Josh Cullen is an automatic starter and Jason Knight’s energetic performance against France this year was very encouraging.
“But the rest Jayson Molumby and Alan Browne are midfielders capable of dealing with the physicality of international football.
Neither offers a solution to Ireland’s creative limitations.
Molumby has had a strange start to the Championship season under Corberan, having started eight games so far in the Championship this season, but the 24-year-old has fallen down the ranks in recent weeks as Alex Mowatt has been reinstated become an important factor.

Corberan has preferred to start Mowatt alongside Ok Yokuslu in recent weeks with Nathaniel Chalobah coming off the bench, while Molumby has remained on the bench and has not played a minute in West Brom’s last two games .
But Kilbane’s frustration with the midfielder appears to be based more on what he expected from Kenny rather than criticism of the 24-year-old.
Molumby is by no means a creative midfielder but is a more industrious option in the center of the pitch.
This is most likely why his minutes have been limited at The Hawthorns in recent weeks, as Corberan is keen to have technically gifted players in his squad.
Albion fans will be hoping for a good season with his national team that sees Molumby return to the West Midlands with a bit more confidence and back to his best.
