Sevilla coach José Luis Mendilibar said his team is on the rise, despite mixed results.
They face PSV Eindhoven at 21:
00 CEST in the second Champions League group stage match in the Netherlands, after securing a 1-1 draw against Lens on the opening day.
Mendilibar told ED that he expected an even match, which would be tough.
PSV lost 0-4 to Arsenal in the opening match.
“They have a very good team, they have won everything in the league, which is a very good sign because of their status as a team and their individuals.
PSV are well organised, with good players who are having a very good season, even if they clearly lost in the Champions League.
Sevilla just lost 0-1 to Barcelona but previously defeated Almeria 5-1 at home.
However, Los Nervionenses still ranked 15th with only 2 wins in 7 matches against Spain.
However, Mendilibar were positive about their trajectory, noting that they have improved since the match against Lens.
“I thought we played well until they [Lens] tied us up and from then on they outplayed us, we didn’t have a good time there.
Now we are more confident, we are more defensive, we are more improved than last year, I want us to get closer to what we were last season, little by little, we I’m getting closer and that means results are coming, I imagine.“
Their only defeat since their opening three-match encounter was certainly against Barcelona, where Sevilla defended well and were competitive with the Blaugrana.
Sergio Ramos’ imposing presence could come in handy in Europe and he appears to be forming a strong partnership with Loïc Bade.
