Adams during made his bombshell trade request official on Sunday and intends to take up a three-year deal with the Swans.
The 30-year-old, who missed out on the Magpies’ premiership through injury, has one season left on his existing contract with the club.
“Taylor’s part of our leadership group and would’ve been in our grand final team,” Wright told reporters on Monday at the start of the trade period.
“He’s been vice-captain of the club, so from our perspective we see him as a required player.
“But we’ll have conversations with Sydney and see where it goes.”
Wright said Collingwood had not discussed extending Adams’ contract to tempt him to stay at the club where he has spent the past decade.
The 206-game veteran is seeking more midfield time, having been pushed to half-forward for longer stints after Tom Mitchell’s arrival at the Magpies a year ago.
Wright said Adams first spoke to Collingwood about a possible trade last Wednesday and is now overseas.
Wright dismissed talk that John Noble – another of Collingwood’s grand final heartbreak stories – could follow Adams out the door.
Noble played all 23 home-and-away games this year but was dropped for the finals series.
“We really understand and sympathise with John but he’s just signed a three-year deal and we see him as part of what we’re doing as well,” Wright said.
Collingwood are still paying a reported $250,000 per year of Brodie Grundy’s salary, a year after he left the Magpies for Melbourne.
Grundy now appears bound for Sydney during the trade period but Wright said Collingwood won’t try to extricate themselves from the deal.
“Our heads of agreement is with Brodie, not Melbourne or Sydney,” Wright said.
Adelaide defender Tom Doedee has joined the Brisbane Lions after the Crows opted not to match the grand finalists’ offer to the restricted free agent.
The Crows will receive an end of round one compensation draft pick (currently pick No.19).
Gold Coast are eager to do a quick deal to offload the No.4 draft pick for multiple selections that would help them secure a trio of talented academy players.
“There’s a good chance that’ll get done today,” Suns list boss Craig Cameron told reporters on Monday.
“(The Western Buldogs) are the frontrunners, so we’ll see how the day pans out, but I think it’ll get done.”
