Reports in the Daily Record last week had suggested that Oliver Glasner was interested in the manager’s job at Rangers following the sacking of Michael Beale.
The latest from the Scottish tabloid has claimed that Rangers are yet to make an approach for Oliver Glasner despite the Austrian instructing his agents to approach the Ibrox club.
In fact, Yokohama F Marinos manager Kevin Muscat and ex-AS Monaco and Club Brugge coach Philippe Clement are believed to the the “leading candidates” for the Rangers job
But that won’t mean Ibrox supporters aren’t interested in these latest claims from Sevilla with Oliver Glasner certainly one of the most popular options to take over at Rangers.
A respected figure from his time in the Austrian and German Bundesligas with LASK Linz and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively, Glasner is one of the best managers in European football who is currently out of work.
Interestingly, another name who has been mentioned alongside the Rangers job is Argentinian boss Marcelo Gallardo and the Spanish-speaking coach has been mooted for the Sevilla gig.
But for Estadio Deportivo, the ex-River boss will only be tempted to break from a long-awaited sabbatical for big money and at the moment isn’t in the running.
Whilst Rangers fans eagerly await the outcome of the club’s new manager search, given Sevilla are the Europa League’s most successful side (7) perhaps Oliver Glasner is made to take over at the Spanish club.
The city of Seville – and in Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium – is also where Rangers tasted heartbreak and Eintracht Frankfurt narrowly edged the club out on penalties.
