Celtic have three or four “incredible” players at the club. This is what first team coach Harry Kewell had to say.
The Australian spoke about his time at the club so far and paid tribute to the work the guys have done in the heat of the game.
But he added that the work is guided and encouraged by the players’ efforts and hard work in training.
Celtic captain Callum McGregor.
McGregor is the man who sets the standards at the club and it seems Kewell has been thoroughly impressed by his work ethic in training.
Kewell told [Official Celtic FC Podcast]: “I think when you talk about good work ethic and hard-working players, I have to say, here we have three or four incredible players pressing.
“And when they play, and they often play, when you see that as a player playing, you clearly think if they do this then I have to do this.
“But the most important thing, especially in a football team, is your captain.
And since I got here, you’ve been following Callum.
“And every day in training I don’t even talk about the matches, because the matches are so easy to start.
It’s easy because that’s what you do when you’re in front of a crowd.
It was magnificent in front of 60,000 people.
Kinda easy.
“Callum runs the training sessions every day.
He is always the first to work hard, he is always the first to sprint, he never loses the ball, he is the first to talk, he is the first to handle, he was the first to motivate everyone.
“Again, as a player, if your captain does that there is no reason.
If your captain goes around raising his hand and saying no, I’m not going to do that in these socks, I think that will give us an excuse to do well if he doesn’t.
“He leads the way.
And I’ve played with captains who have done that and with others who haven’t.
“And I find that when you have a captain who works his hardest in practice, it’s easier to move forward and take it to the next level.
McGregor is certainly a great role model for all the players at the club.
In every Celtic podcast I have watched or listened to, the players regularly highlight the Hoops captain’s efforts in training.
It’s clear that his teammates admire and respect the resilient 30-year-old midfielder.
McGregor led the club to a double and a treble.
His effort on and off the field clearly affects his colleagues and it shows in the way the team hustles on match days.
Celtic fans will be delighted that the captain has a positive influence on the team because it can only mean one thing.
This Celtic will continue to dominate Scottish football as long as there are players like McGregor at the club.
