Sky Sports reporter explain the situation with Crystal Palace star

The agent of Torino and Serie A defender Perr Schuurs has indicated why a rumoured £26 million move to Premier League outfit Crystal Palace failed to materialise during the summer transfer window.

After choosing Torino over the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain during the summer of 2022, Perr Schuurs is clearly a mature head on young shoulders.

The Dutchman felt that regular first-team football, albeit at a mid-table Serie A outfit, would have benefitted him more than sitting on the bench at Anfield or the Parc des Princes, and Schuurs’ decision was justified as he established himself as arguably the first name on the Granata team-sheet.

How much longer Torino can hold onto the former Ajax starlet, however, remains to be seen.

With all due respect, Crystal Palace are not a club on the level of a Liverpool or a PSG. But modern day players are like moths to the bright lights of the Premier League, and Crystal Palace’s club-record £30 million bid – submitted back in July – must have at least appealed to the elegant, 6ft 3ins centre-half (DAZN).

The Eagles also reportedly offered him a four-year contract in South London.

George Gardi, Schuurs’ agent, does admitting that Torino received an offer of £30 million, even if he stopped short of confirming whether or not it came from Selhurst Park.

“This summer, we came close to (leaving),” Gardi tells Tuttomercatoweb. “But the first offer of £25 million and the second close to 30 was not considered sufficient by Torino.

For the future, I can say that Perr is focused on this season. He is not satisfied with this start of the season. He has great ambitions and wants to achieve them with Torino

Whether Crystal Palace return for Schuurs, only time will tell. Much will depend on the futures of Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen. The defensive duo are reportedly on the radars of Manchester United and Newcastle
