A veteran free transfer move, sounds right up Beppe Marotta’s alley
Inter’s pursuit of Mehdi Taremi may not be over. Though the Nerazzurri ultimately ended up with Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez (for better or worse) after a hectic summer at the striker position, the Iranian is still on Inter’s radar. The Porto forward’s contract expires this coming summer and at 31 years old, he’s the perfect age for Beppe Marotta’s free transfer special.
Taremi hasn’t quite been up to the same level this season, currently at just 2 goals in 10 appearances across all comps. Nonetheless, he’s averaged over 15 goals in each of the last three seasons and the current downturn in form seems to be merely temporary. With Arnautovic and Sanchez not inspiring any confidence and getting older by the day, Inter will definitely be in the market for another striker this coming summer, if not sooner. While it’s hard to see the Nerazzurri ponying up the €10+ million Porto would want in January, this seems to be the perfect summer move to add some depth to the frontline.
