The Miami Heat have unsuccessfully tried to trade for or sign multiple stars in years past.
From Kevin Durant to Donovan Mitchell, all the way to Damian Lillard and that failed trade fiasco, it seems like Pat Riley is losing his pull in the Association.
They’ll now have to run it back with a seemingly lesser roster in hopes of making it back to the NBA Finals, and that’s going to be a bit of an uphill battle.
Notably, the Heat were also tangled up with Bradley Beal in the past.
However, NBA insider Zach Lowe of ESPN recently reported that they were never too keen on trading for the former Washington Wizards All-Star (via NBA Central).
Per Lowe, the Heat weren’t convinced that Beal was worth around $30 million more than Tyler Herro — who also happens to be seven years younger — going forward, which is why they didn’t pursue a deal.
Truth be told, Beal’s contract was always considered to be one of the worst in the league, not because of his level of play but because of his astronomically high salary and his no-trade clause.
That clause doomed the Warriors to get a subpar return from the Phoenix Suns, as he could pretty much choose his next destination and, therefore, the trade package they’d get in return.
It’s unclear if Beal would’ve chosen the Heat and Jimmy Butler over Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns anyway.
But it seems like Erik Spoelstra and company weren’t too sad when they watched him go to the desert.
