BBC Report: Celtic has two season debuts that must surely be in the offing over the coming weeks…

The season is over three months old, yet the Celtic support are still waiting to see a couple of attackers play their first minutes.

It’s been a campaign dominated by injuries so far for Brendan Rodgers‘ side. Virtually every key outfielder has been missing for some period with some kind of a knock.

Even right now we are without the likes of Liel Abada and Maik Nawrocki, while there are doubts over Daizen Maeda’s fitness.

Fellow wingers Mikey Johnston and Marco Tilio also started the campaign with injuries. As we covered earlier, Johnston had a stress fracture in his back at the tail end of last season while Tilio already had a hamstring issue when he joined us.

Both are back now in training but yet to play a minute in 2023/24. Tilio hasn’t even made one of Rodgers’ matchday squads while Johnston has been included on the bench in our two UEFA Champions League clashes so far.

The latter has featured for Ireland during this international break and even scored against Gibraltar on Monday. While a goal against the minnows is hardly a career-defining achievement, it does at least show that he’s fit and firing.

He will surely get a taste of the action in a game over the coming weeks. Tilio, too, will feature at some stage and become our final summer signing to take to the field when he makes his season debut.

Both have a fair amount of unknown about them as far as the Hoops support are concerned. So, at the very least, it will be interesting to see what they can bring to proceedings.
