BBC Report: Celtic in fresh injury boost as £4.3m player update emerges…

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic defender Maik Nawrocki has returned to full training at the club.

The 22-year-old defender has been absent for almost two months with a hamstring injury but he is now back at training, much to his manager’s delight.

The Polish youth international joined the Hoops in the summer transfer window for a fee of £4.3 million on a five-year deal.

He has only made two Scottish Premiership appearances, but will hopefully now feature regularly. Rodgers also delivered updates on other absentees.

“He [Nawrocki) is doing very well and trained over the last week or so,” said Rodgers, as quoted by the Daily Record (page 49).

“So we’ve only really got Stephen Welsh and Liel Abada, who will hopefully be back in December.

“You always know you will have injuries – that’s just the nature of it.

I just think at the beginning of the season that, aligned with new players coming in and trying to adapt and settle, was the challenge.

But the players have come through that really well and things feel stable. We’re excited about going forward.”

Celtic have been outstanding in the league, and they have already moved well ahead of Rangers who are struggling badly at the moment.

The Bhoys will face Hearts at Tynecastle after the international break on Sunday. Hearts are fourth in the league at the moment, and playing away won’t be easy.

The next three games could pose strong challenges. Rodgers’ side will face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League next week.

Celtic have been very poor in Europe, and they will be looking to raise their game at Parkhead and get a positive result against the Rojiblancos.

After that, they will face Hibernian away from home, which could also be a tough fixture.
