BBC Report: Ange Postecoglou speaks for the first time since winning Manager of the Month…

Has Ange Postecoglou reinforced a new status for Tottenham in the Premier League this season amid their unbeaten start? He provided a typical answer.

Postecoglou fronted the media for the first time since making history by becoming the first manager ever to be named Premier League Manager of the Month in each of his first two months in the competition.

It comes as Tottenham top the standings through eight rounds, ahead of London rivals Arsenal on goal difference as the A-Leagues and Australian legend takes the Premier League by storm in his first season in England.

Ahead of the clash against Fulham on Tuesday (AEDT), Postecoglou was asked whether he felt Spurs’ start to the season and the manner in which they have played has reinforced a new status for the club in 2023-24.

“That’s not for me to judge, that’s for others to judge,” he told reporters after inheriting a team that failed to qualify for Europe last season.

“My thinking around those things is always how we present ourselves and how we perform is going to be indicative of how we’re perceived, than us trying to make any kind of statements around that fact.

“At the moment there’s probably a little bit of curiosity around us, the same way there is around me; ‘Why is this happening and how is this happening?’.

“I get that, because there’s nothing beyond that to give you some sort of idea of what trajectory we should be on. I understand that, but that’s not really is what’s important right now.”

Quizzed on whether he felt Tottenham’s start to the season had gone better than expected and what he thought was achievable for the squad, Postecoglou replied: “Both those questions are predetermined by some target I may or may not have had and I didn’t have a target so wherever we are is where we are.

“We’ve had a really encouraging start to season and it’s an honour to receive the manager of month but that sorts of representative of a larger group of people.

“The coaching staff and football department are working really hard at the moment to create an environment and training base for the players to perform.”
