The Philadelphia Eagles announced a controversial decision on star wide receiver Julio Jones’ availability for their Week 7 contest against the Miami Dolphins. The Eagles signed the three-time All-Pro wide receiver to the practice squad Tuesday.
Per Josh Alper with NBC Sports, head coach Nick Sirianni said in his Friday press conference that the Eagles weren’t sure if they’d play Jones this week for safety reasons:
“Julio, you’re going to be tempted to want to put him in because he’s a phenomenal player that’s done a lot in this league,” Sirianni said.
“We are going to have to make sure that we’re not putting him in danger. Doing what we need do to help us win the game and doing what he needs to do to help us win the game, and also being smart with his rep count just because of elevated risk of injury if you put him in for too much.”
According to a statement by the Eagles, the team is elevating Jones against the Dolphins.
The Eagles are making a controversial decision to elevate the 34-year-old wide receiver after only being with the team a handful of days. The Eagles knew they’d be tempted to elevate him this week.
