Town have issued an update to supporters regarding Friday’s postponed game against Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium with fans who purchased tickets for the fixture to be awarded a £5 voucher as a mark of appreciation as well as an away priority point.
The match was called off three hours before it was due to kick-off after Storm Babet led to the River Don bursting its banks.
The update reads: “The club’s Sky Bet Championship away fixture against Rotherham United, originally scheduled for an 8pm kick-off on Friday, 20 October was postponed on the day due to safety concerns and severe flooding surrounding the AESSEAL New York Stadium, which had also affected major routes into Rotherham.
“It is important to note that, although the pitch at the AESSEAL New York Stadium remained playable, and no official inspection was required, the decision was made in the interest of supporter safety.
“Given the significant impact due to heavy flooding that had affected large parts of Suffolk and the anticipation of further delays due to traffic on main roads, it was also recognised that many supporters were unable to complete their journeys.
“The official club coaches did not make the journey, owing to coach provider Galloway experiencing difficulties in despatching services given the conditions. It is noted that one coach did depart Portman Road, although this was provided from a separate location by Galloway and was also found not to have completed the journey.
“Supporters who intended to travel on the official club coaches and had purchased coach travel tickets for the original Rotherham fixture have the option to use their existing travel tickets for the rescheduled fixture or claim a full refund.
“Match tickets for the original fixture will remain valid for the rearranged date, confirmed to take place on Tuesday 7th November, with kick-off at 8pm. Supporters can also request a full refund for their tickets if returned to the club before midday on Monday 6th November.
“As per the original fixture, this match will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports, with ticketing information set to be communicated in due course.
“Separate to the club’s ticketing policy, it is confirmed that all supporters who purchased a ticket for the original fixture will receive an away priority point, regardless of if a ticket refund is requested.
“As a further show of appreciation to those who made the effort to travel, the club will be awarding supporters who purchased tickets for the original fixture a £5 voucher to be spent in the club shop, Planet Blue. Those eligible will be contacted in due course with details on how to redeem.”
