Tottenham have the option to sign a bargain striker in the January transfer market as they look to replace Harry Kane.
Tottenham are one of the teams that will be on red alert as Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy reportedly has a release clause in his contract of £15million despite scoring an incredible 14 goals in eight Bundesliga games. The 27-year-old helped the German side to promotion to the top flight last season, before continuing his goalscoring exploits by taking the top tier by storm.
The Guinean has set the record for the most Bundesliga goals ever after eight games, surpassing Robert Lewandowski’s record, and he has scouts from all over the world paying attention. He has attracted interest from Spurs according to TEAMtalk, who are said to be making early explorations into the striker.
Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou opted against entering into the transfer market to sign a marquee replacement for Harry Kane. They instead put the onus on the likes of Son Heung-min and James Maddison to deliver, backed up by Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson.
Spurs will note that Guirassy is outscoring Kane in Germany and is available for a fraction of the price that they sold the England captain for in the summer, though Fulham are also said to be interested in a potential transfer as they look to fill the void left by Aleksandar Mitrovic following his big-money move to Saudi Arabia.
Son has primarily been used as the out-and-out striker by Postecoglou recently, as the boss explained that his new captain was part of the reason why he didn’t bring in an immediate replacement for Kane.
“One of the reasons we didn’t buy (a number nine) is that Sonny, central or wide, has all the characteristics to play in any system,” Postecoglou said in September. “I have a picture in my head of what want the team to look like and we are still building. There is lots to be done.”
