Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Louie Barry faces an extended period out after suffering a serious hamstring injury
Aston Villa youngster Louie Barry faces several months on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring in Stockport County’s League Two match against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old was replaced in the 25th minute of County’s win over Crewe and has since had a scan at the hospital. Barry will now require surgery before starting a rehabilitation programme.
He joined Stockport on loan in the summer and hit the ground running under Dave Challinor, scoring nine goals in the 14 appearances he made before Tuesday, while registering two assists. He also became the first player in the club’s history to bag in seven consecutive matches last month.
Barry’s scintillating form for Stockport was rewarded when he was named the League Two player of the month for September. His form has helped Stockport climb to the summit of the League Two table after the first 15 games of the campaign.
The Villa loanee faced Stockport in both legs of last season’s League Two play-off semi-final as a Salford player after joining the club on loan in the second half of last season. Barry had jumped up to League One with MK Dons last term after an impressive spell at Swindon Town in League Two in 2022, but only scored one goal in 22 games for The Dons.
His target for this season was to register 20 goal contributions and managed to record 11 before suffering the injury setback this week.
