The former Blues striker is hoping to be ready to face his former employers at St Mary’s this weekend
Southampton striker Che Adams is a doubt for what would be a first reunion with Birmingham City since leaving St Andrew’s in 2019.
After a stuttering start to his Blues career the Scotland international became a favourite with supporters in the 2018/2019 campaign when he bagged 22 goals and cleaned up at the end of season awards.
He was sold to Saints for £15million a few months later and paths have not crossed ever since. They might not now either after the 27-year-old picked up a knock in Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw at Preston, a game in which he was substituted at half-time.
Southampton manager Russell Martin expressed his irritation with Adams having played for his country against both Spain and France just a couple of weeks ago.
“We knew on Saturday as we were touch and go then. His mentality meant he played when maybe others wouldn’t, I think it’s fair to say. He has such a warrior mentality. It was difficult to lose him and we adapted the team a little bit to utilise what we’re good at.”
The draw at Deepdale extended their unbeaten run to five games, while Blues have lost bother of Wayne Rooney’s two matches, most recently a 2-0 loss at home to Hull City.
