SEVILLA COME BACK TO DRAW WITH ANDALUSIAN RIVALS CÁDIZ
New Sevilla manager Diego Alonso took charge of his first away game in the short trip to Cádiz on Saturday evening, with the game ending 2-2. With the teams separated by just one spot heading into the 11th round of fixtures, the game promised to be tight.
It was Cádiz who started brightly, finding the net in the eighth minute after poor defending allowed striker Chris Ramos to put the home side one nil up, assisted by Roger Marti. The goal encouraged Cádiz, who found their rhythm in the game as Sevilla struggled. Cádiz’s continued pressure culminated in a second goal. Iván Alejo capitalised on a poor pass by Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos to take back possession before Roger Marti got his second assist of the game as he set up Darwin Machis, who put the Yellow Submarine two-nil up inside the first thirty minutes.
Sevilla, however, started to get back into the game. Sergio Ramos had a goal ruled out for offside before Lucas Ocampos got one goal back with a well-placed header.
Shortly after the break, Cádiz almost made it 3-1, but Nyland saved the away side and kept them in the game. Shortly after, Ivan Rakitić, who continues to flourish despite his age, brought the away side level with a sumptuous looping volley from just inside the box. After the goal, the game lost its spark, and mistakes became increasingly frequent.
A last-minute save from Cádiz goalkeeper Ledesma kept the scores level, and the teams shared the points. Cádiz and Sevilla are now 14th and 13th in the league, respectively.
