West Coast Eagles Wheelchair AFL player Ben Green has been selected to represent Western Australia in this week’s 2023 Toyota Wheelchair AFL National Championships.
After lighting it up on the court with a fantastic start to the season as part of the inaugural West Coast Eagles team, Green travelled to Victoria to compete against the best-of-the-best over four days.
With the Wheelchair AFL National Championships first beginning in 2016, the 2023 competition marks another year of growth for wheelchair football across Australia.
The championships showcase Australia’s most talented Wheelchair AFL footballers and offers players the opportunity to represent their state or territory in a lightning carnival competition format.
Green will compete alongside opposition players from the WA Wheelchair Football League, who will be uniting for the carnival in hopes of taking home the first Toyota Wheelchair AFL National Championship victory for Western Australia.
The WA competition will be taking a break this weekend whilst the national championships are on, but with three rounds until finals the Eagles are looking to secure a top-3 finish.
Currently sitting in third at a record of one win, one draw and two narrow losses, the team will aim for a big back half of the year to cement their position and take home the premiership in their inaugural season of the WAWFL competition.
The 2023 Toyota Wheelchair AFL National Championships will began on Thursday at approximately 9am AEST and will be streamed live and free on Kayo on Saturday and Sunday.
