UPDATE: Detroit Lions HC Details Team’s New Running Back Plans…

The Detroit Lions have turned themselves into one of the most complete teams in football.

It has taken a long while for them to be good, but people around the league are starting to respect them.

One reason for their success has been the play of their running backs.

Both David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs have been great at carrying the load in their first seasons in Detroit.

Montgomery was signed by the Lions in free agency, while Gibbs was selected with the 12th overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Now they have become one of the best running back tandems in football.

Montgomery has gotten most of the work when healthy.

But, he missed the last two games with a rib injury and Gibbs shined in his absence.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell sees their backfield being a committee, and Gibbs getting his “fair share,” via the team on YouTube.

Gibbs is the more explosive running back, and that showed during the last two games.

The rookie was great catching passes out of the backfield and had back-to-back games with over 100 yards from scrimmage.

But, Montgomery has had a great season in his own right and has been dominant between the tackles.

You can bet he will remain their goal-line back and see plenty of carries as the season moves along.

It will be interesting to see what they do in Montgomery’s first game back from injury next weekend.

But, the Lions have been at their best with both in the lineup and their running game should remain strong for the remainder of the year.
