The Los Angeles Chargers are heading into their Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions after getting back to. 500 in their win against the New York Jets.
If offense was what you were looking for, it certainly didn’t happen on Monday night, as both teams combined for just 461 total yards of offense. The offenses were putrid, but luckily, the Bolts did enough and came out with the win. Although the win is the most important thing, I think it’s fair to point out how terrible Chargers QB1 Justin Herbert was on Monday night.
Herbert had one of his worst performances of the season in Week 9, and the noise was loud — so loud that ESPN analyst and football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe chimed in and went so far as to say that he’s not yet sold on the Pro Bowl QB.
Herbert’s performance was one to forget, completing 16 of 30 passes for 136 yards, throwing zero touchdowns, being sacked five times, and having a QBR of 41.1. It was just an atrocious outing from start to finish, but to his credit, was against a Jets defense that has made many top QBs look silly this year.
Still, the 25-year-old was paid to be the franchise quarterback and take LA over the top, and through eight games, we have yet to see any glimmer of that. When you get paid like a QB1, you must play like it. Granted, this was the first game in which Herbert did not throw a touchdown, and this Jets defense has made the best of QB’s look pedestrian, but those other QBs aren’t paid like Justin.
He must meet certain expectations because that’s what the organization, the team, pundits, and fans expect. A new week will be upon us against a great Lions team, and he’ll get another opportunity to show he is the man for the Bolts and prove those pundits wrong.
