In his first year as a retired NFL player, legendary quarterback Tom Brady raised a few eyebrows recently when he declared that he believes there is “a lot of mediocrity” in the league currently.
Some might agree with Brady’s thoughts, but it doesn’t sound like former Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders is part of that group.
In a recent appearance on Robert Griffin III’s “RG3 and The Ones” podcast, Sanders had the following to say about Brady’s comments (via ProFootballTalk on Twitter).
“Maybe he’s talking about the teams he played for, but the team I played for? The team that I played for, no. It’s anything but mediocre.”
Ouch, hopefully, Brady has some ointment available wherever he’s currently living for the burn that Sanders just gave him.
Sanders is, of course, referring to the impressive success that his former team, the Lions, are currently experiencing this season.
After 11 games, Detroit has an 8-3 record, and they are on track to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Meanwhile, Brady’s former team, the New England Patriots, are in the middle of an embarrassing 2023 season, with just two wins in their first 10 games.
So maybe instead of watching the Patriots struggle for the rest of the 2023 campaign, the future Hall of Fame quarterback should listen to Sanders and pay closer attention to what Detroit has been able to do out on the field each week.
While they are coming off a surprising loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving, the Lions are still viewed not only as one of the best teams in the NFC, but one of the best teams in the entire NFL.
