Nottingham Forest have again been linked with an interest in Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney ahead of the January transfer window.
Forest were first linked with the 21-year-old back in May, with the Reds one of a number of clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle all said to be keeping an eye on the youngster. Despite the interest, Hackney remained at Middlesbrough and put pen to paper on a new deal with the club in the summer.
He has continued to impress in the Championship this season, making 16 appearances in the competition, and scoring one goal. Forest links re-emerged back in September with the Reds said to be ‘watching’ the player.
It seems that any interest has not waned as the January window edges closer. According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon (via Patreon ) Hackney remains of interest to Forest for the upcoming window. Forest chief Ross Wilson is said to have recently been watching the midfielder as he featured for England U21s during the international break.
The main focus for Forest in the January window will be on trimming the squad. Steve Cooper has confirmed that plans are already in place for business in the window.
“It’s definitely that time where all clubs will be getting ready for transfer windows, and then you go through the process of what players you would like to bring in,” he said. “That doesn’t mean they do come in – and sometimes the other way as well.
“We’ll be no different to anyone else. Let’s see what happens when it comes.”
