Rangers Philippe clement choice for director of football not to be considered

Rangers’ next Director of Football will not be KRC Genk man Dimitri de Conde.

That’s according to the Belgian director himself, who was speaking after fairly ambitious rumours surrounded a potential Rangers move.

The Ibrox club have been clear that a Director of Football appointment is imminent with the call on who will fill the role expected very soon.

For whatever reason the hunt appears to be ongoing with Dimitri de Conde the latest name to be ruled out of the running.

Belgian outlet Voetbal Krant were the first reputable outlet to discuss Dimitri de Conde as a potential option for Rangers’ new Director of Football.

The report only served to shoot down the links between Rangers and the Genk director, claiming that the Ibrox side haven’t even made an approach.

This comes despite the report claiming that it is a “fact” that Philippe Clement recommended Dimitri de Conde to the Rangers Board.

With that report ruling the move out, now Dimitri de Conde himself has been talking about his future and those links to Rangers.

Speaking to L’Avenir about his current situation, the KRC Genk director is clear he remains committed and focused on the task at hand in Belgium.

For Dimitri de Conde, that is making Genk – Philippe Clement’s former side of course – the most powerful club in Belgium.

Such is his commitment to the cause, the Genk director claims that he signed a contract until 2029 to both ward off would be suitors and prove his loyalty to the club he loves.

“It was also a signal to other clubs too,” said de Conde. “I am loyal to Genk.

“I love the club and I am a Limburger.

“I know the club and the management, we are a group of very ambitious comrades. That is rare in football.

“My ambition remains to make Genk the biggest club in Belgium.

“I signed a contract until 2029, but that does not necessarily mean I will be here until 2029 because if the club gets into sporting problems, I am responsible.

“But it was a gesture to show that I am still involved in Genk’s long-term project.”

Rangers fans are eagerly awaiting an update on the Director of Football situation with the January transfer window looming large.
