Philippe Clement Changes His Mind About The Red Card Appeal That He Would Rather…

Philippe Clement admits Rangers may appeal Jose Cifuentes’ red card against Dundee once they’ve had a chance to assess it further.

The Ecuadorian was sent packing towards the end of the first half at Ibrox with his side already leading 3-1 having come back from an early setback in the shape of Amadou Bakayoko’s early opener.

It was a late challenge but one referee Kevin Clancy deemed worthy of just a yellow on first look.

But having been asked to watch it back and seeing the tackle slowed down, he changed his mind and upgraded it to a red

But these are the sort of replays managers have been bemoaning all season as they can magnify and exaggerate a tackle or contact between two players compared to how it actually played out in real time.

Cifuentes was adamant there was no intent and that he in fact tried to avoid contact. Therefore his manager will review the incident for himself and make a decision on an appeal.

Clement said: “I’ve not seen the images back. Jose told me he lost the ball and wanted to win it back.

“He wanted to block the ball but the other guy is a split second faster and tackles through the ball and there’s contact. Jose tries to avoid it, he didn’t go through it.

So I want to see things back to have a clear opinion so we can make an assessment in the next few days.”
