Detroit among youngest rosters in NFL, set up well for future.

Lost in the Detroit Lions’ 9-4 start to the 2023 season is the fact that this success isn’t meant to be the flash in the pan kind.

Since the beginning of their tenure in 2021, Lions general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell have spoken over and over about their desire to build this program up.

To make it so that each year, the Lions are positioned well to be in the playoffs, and win once they get there.

And if you ask me, they are well ahead of schedule as we sit here in the homestretch of their third season in Detroit.

The Lions are stocked with young talent all over the roster, which is why you will find them near the bottom of this chart by ESPN’s Bill Barnwell.

So while this season has been a lot of fun, by no means is this it for the Lions. Many of their best players are still ascending in their careers.

Just to name a few, players like right tackle Penei Sewell and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown are still on their rookie contracts from 2021, and yet both could garner All-Pro honors at the end of the season.

Additionally, the Lions won’t be losing a ton of snaps to free agency in the coming off season.

As far as this year goes, let’s just hope that a lot of the Lions’ youth begins to play their best football as December marches on, and into the playoffs come January.

We knew this week’s episode would be contentious after the Lions’ Week 14 loss to the Bears, and the guys didn’t disappoint in the newest episode of “The St. Brown Bro’s Podcast.”
