Giants Running Back Arrested In Los Angeles In Connection To A String Of Alleged Robbery..
Monday, former Giants running back Derrick Ward was arrested in Los Angeles connection to a string of alleged robberies, according to TMZ Sports.
Tiki Barber, who was teammates with Ward on the Giants from 2004 to 2006, has commented on the arrest.
“It’s just sad to hear,” Barber told the New York Post. “He was from a rough environment and it felt like he was at a point in his life where he escaped it. It’s shocking because I feel like he got his life right.
According to the New York Post, Barber also said that he spoke to Ward about about eight months ago, and he “indicated he was getting involved behind the scenes in the movie business.”
The Jets selected Ward in the seventh round of the 2004 draft with the 235th overall pick. He was released that October and picked up by the Giants.
In five years (51 games) with the Giants, Ward rushed for 1,750 yards on 342 carries and recorded five touchdowns.
In 2009, he signed a four-year, $17 million deal with the Buccaneers, but was cut before the 2010 season. Shortly after that, he signed with the Houston Texans.
Ward announced his retirement in 2012 after a eight-year career in which he recorded 2,628 rushing yards on 551 attempts with 12 touchdowns in 93 games
