The Bears will have two players representing them in the 2024 Pro Bowl Games: defensive end Montez Sweat and cornerback Jaylon Johnson.Both Sweat and Johnson have been named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in their NFL careers, with the former entering the league in 2019 and the latter in 2020. Their appearance mark an increase from 2022, when the Bears didn’t have any of their players named as Pro Bowlers.
Sweat, 27, was acquired by the Bears from the Commanders in a trade on Oct. 31. In his 8 games with Chicago, he has tallied 6.0 sacks, 22 tackles, 3 pass deflections and a forced fumble. As of this writing, he has played in 16 games between his stints with both teams and is tied for 10th in the NFL with 12.5 sacks.
Johnson, 24, is tied for seventh in the NFL with 4 interceptions and has 10 pass deflections. He is second in the league with a 36.8% allowed completion percentage, and his 19.3 passer rating against tops all defensive backs. A steady starter his first three seasons with the Bears, he took a massive step in 2023 and has now solidified himself as one of the top cornerbacks in the league.
This year’s Pro Bowl marks the second year players will partake in a flag football game and numerous skills competitions, rather than the typical tackle game. Such competitions include dodgeball, farthest throw, best catch and tug-of-war.
