Due to a second devastating injury to Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals’ season is almost over. After starting off the year with a calf strain that had him severely limited throughout the first leg of the schedule, Burrow was finally rounding into form. As a result, the Bengals were rolling as well, winners of four straight games. However, after a disappointing outing against the Houston Texans, the team was looking to rebound against divisional opponents the Baltimore Ravens.

Alas, instead of getting revenge for an early-season blowout, the Bengals had to suffer their worst nightmare. While they lost the match, the bigger story coming out of the game was the injury to Joe Burrow, who injured his wrist. The next day, the Bengals team revealed that Joe Burrow would be out for the season, and with a sizeable deficit already in place in the standings, it would take a miracle for the team to somehow secure a playoff spot.

The man hoping to orchestrate such a scenario now is young Jake Browning. Technically a 4-year veteran, Browning hasn’t seen real game-time action for either the Bengals or the Vikings prior to this year. While he was on practice squads for both teams, participating in playoff games, his experience is rather limited. So, the only real basis for judgment for the 27-year-old is his team as a collegiate athlete.

Jake Browning College

During his tenure before making it to the NFL, Browning attended the University of Washington where he would end up spending four seasons. He was among the most prominent athletes at the Quarterback position during the first half of his collegiate career. Moreover, Browning even had some Heisman trophy hype in his second season. But, an injury midway through the year derailed his momentum. After that, he could not capture lightning in a bottle twice and remained stationary in terms of production.
