Darvin Ham told Jeanie Buss support won’t last as Lakers future looks uncertain
The LA Lakers coach is under pressure
- NBA. Lamar Odom holds key to fixing LeBron James and the Lakers’ problems
- NBA. LeBron James accused of being as violent as Draymond Green as he punches Jaren Jackson Jr. in the face
Darvin Ham has insisted he is not concerned about his future with the Los Angeles Lakers because he has full backing from owner Jeanie Buss.
The Lakers finally ended their losing streak after edging past the Clippers, their LA rivals, 106-103 last time out.
But it hasn’t stopped speculation about his future following a run of three defeats in a row, with the Purple and Gold 18-19 for the season and 10th in the Western Conference.
The coach, 50, was forced to swat away questions about his position before the game and opened up on his conversations with Lakers supremo Buss, 62.
“I told you, man, I’m just thankful that I’ve got that support from Jeanie, with her always encouraging me, asking me ‘What do I need? Is everything great?'” said Ham.
But fans on Reddit were not convinced, debating how Buss‘ patience will eventually wear thin.
In a thread discussing his future, one fan said: “She’s going to knife him”, while another said Buss and Ham were the “worst coach and owner in the league”.

LeBron’s comments won’t help
At a time when his coach could do with a vote of confidence from basketball’s biggest name, James has been complimenting his former coach at Cleveland.
LeBron James appeared to take a swipe at his current coach with high praise for his predecessor Tyronn Lue, who LeBron wanted at the Lakers before Frank Vogel took over.
Lue is currently in charge of the Clippers – and it could be taken as a shot at his current boss Ham that James was praising the coach after being asked about the Clippers’ recent revival.
“I know T-Lue very well. It don’t take T-Lue very long to make sure s*** get right,” James said. “It took five games, and they’ve [Clippers] been cooking since.”
The Lakers host the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday before facing the Phoenix Suns two days later.
And if they lose both of those games, it remains to be seen how much support Buss has left to give.
